  About CAAP

  China Association of Assistive Products (CAAP, originally titled as China Prosthesis and Orthosis Association) was established in November, 1986. Under the guidance of the Ministry of Civil Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, CAAP voluntarily consists of the enterprises, institutions, social groups belonging to the assistive products industry, the practitioners of this industry, experts, scholars, and leading figures of various circles of society. CAAP, as a non-for-profit national social organization, an independent legal entity and industrial association, is entrusted by the Ministry of Civil Affairs of the People’s Republic of China to administer the whole assistive products industry in China. CAAP is a member of International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO). 

  CAAP insists on the aim of “Serve the Community, Serve the People with Disabilities, and Serve the Member of our Association”. CAAP strengthens the link among the government, both international and locally organizations and the service objects. Rallying and relying on the social power home and aboard, CAAP carries out technical exchanges and cooperation, maintains the domestic market order, enhances fair competition, improves the overall profits of the industry, protects the rights of the disabled and customers with legal provisions, and promotes rapid development of the assistive products industry in China. 

   The affiliated secondary institutions under CAAP include Academic Committee of Prosthetics and Orthotics, China Academy Committee of Hearing Aid and Cochlea Implant, Professional Committee of Wheelchairs, Professional Committee of Orbital implants, Professional Committee of Foot Orthoses, and Professional Committee of Rehabilitation Devices. 

  The core missions of CAAP are as follows: assists the government to develop and implement policies, regulations, systems and management standards to conducted quality control of assistive products and standardized management; conducted the qualification evaluation for the domestic and foreign companies and institutions in China; coordinate the market order, prices and the relationships in-industry and cross-industries; edit and publish journals, books, popular science books and science and technology materials, collect domestic and international information, and offer consultation service; organize technology training and academic exchange activities, promote the development of advanced skills and management methods, and recognized the collectives and individuals for their outstanding contributions; raise funds through various channels for the development of the industry and work on social welfare funding with award and other donor projects; organize public welfare and the international friendly communication and cooperation to promote the development of the assistive products industry in China. 

   CAAP owns group members and individual members. Currently, 578 group members and more than two thousands individual members are registered in CAAP. CAAP has built extensive contacts with many countries such as Germany, Japan, the United States, Canada, etc. and areas such as Taiwan, Hong Kong, etc.
